My New Ride

Well, after almost two years of no road bike (I should say a second road bike as my first only sits on the trainer) and a self-imposed ban on roadie group rides, I'm ready to mix it up with the big boys again. Bring on the House of Pain (the name of the local group ride here). Meet my new Trek Madone 5.2 Pro. Thanks Lombardi Sports and PacWest Athletics. She's not tricked out with all the top-end components and parts but she still comes in lighter than my tri-bike which is tricked out with all light components. She came just in time as I'm finally over my 3-week illness and started my training back up this past weekend. I still haven't taken her out for a ride but the weather looks perfect for this weekend. It's only been three weeks but I feel like I've lost all my swimming muscles but 2-3 more swims and I'll be back where I was. And like swimming, all I need is a couple of rides and I get back into cycling shape pretty quickly as well. However, running is a whole another story. For someone whose strength used to be the run, for lack of batter word, I simply suck at it now. I ran 20 minutes off the bike on Sunday and though the knee didn't really hurt, the glute and hamstring were still very much tight, which means it's only a matter of time before the knee hurts again. Sure enough, while doing danurasana (half-wheel pose for those who don't speak yogi) in yoga class, the knee complained. I have a feeling this is going to be the chronic injury of not only 2008 but also 2009. Advice?

Get some active release therapy on the tight hamstring and glute - might help so the knee won't start hurting again?! :) Oh, and NICE bike!!

Sweet new rig. I used to have the same self-imposed ban, but I find mixing it up with a few of em every now and then is good training. Good luck with the knee bro.
